Sheryl Sandberg was born in 1969, in Washington, D.C., in a Jewish American family. She graduated from Harvard College in 1991 summa cum laude with a B.A. in economics and was awarded the John H. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics. After graduating from business school in the spring of 1995, Sandberg worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company for approximately one year. In the following six years, Sandberg served as Chief of Staff to the United States Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers under President Bill Clinton. She joined Google Inc. in 2001, serving as its Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations from November 2001 to March 2008. Now, she is Chief Operating Officer for Facebook.
As a lot of people know, Sheryl wrote a book called Lean In, which talks about her life as a mother and as a COO, together with the suggestions she give to women to pursue for their career goals. However, there are many criticism come with the huge success. Some people argued that her perspective about the challenges facing working mothers was severely limited because of her position as a highly educated, very rich, white woman, who will "NEVER know what it’s like to face the choice between taking a day off to stay home with a sick child, or risk losing the minimum wage job you need to buy that sick child’s medicine."
We all know there is no secret success formula for every woman in this world. Life is never fair to all of us. There is one way better than the other for each women as we all have different personalities and characteristics. However, what Sheryl mentioned in her book that all women should be confident in themselves is absolutely right. We can struggle in some way, but different attitudes often have different results. Sheryl Sandberg has her courage and confidence to seek new opportunities, so she was rewarded the success and happiness she has been looking for. Stepping out is never easy. But success will never come without having the first foot out.
Confidence. Courage. Passion. Leadership. They can change our life.
